I was talking with someone the other day about life and marriage and stuff and for some reason I later started relating what I was thinking about to my Pampered Chef can opener.
I got one of those new fangled openers and the first time I tried to use it I couldn't figure it out- I had to look at the instruction manual. I took a quick glance and saw a picture and saw what I was supposed to do and proceeded to turn the handle until I was sure the can was open. When I took the opener off I tried to get the lid off but couldn't figure it out but thankfully I had heard someone say something about using a little hook on the opener to get the lid off so I tried one little hook thingy on the opener but that didn't work so I looked at the instructions again - success - I got the lid off and there were no sharp edges and I was able to get all the pizza sauce out of the can with out cutting my hand. It was great!
The connection to life is - We can try to figure things out on our own or we can read the "instruction manual" - the Bible - to figure things out. Sure I could have just thrown the can opener back in the drawer and used my old one but I almost always cut my hand - even though slightly - while trying to get all the pizza sauce out. Life is that way too - we can do things our own way but there are often "sharp edges" that harm us when we do that. How much better life is when we follow the "directions" - the Creator knows how things are going to work best. Sometimes though we just take a quick glance and think we know it all when we really need to take the time to read the whole thing so we are getting the whole picture and can not only "open" life but actually get the "lid" off and get all the "pizza sauce" - live life abundantly and reap the blessings God has for us!
